UEFA EURO 2024 Volunteer Kick-Off events ignite excitement across Germany

May 1, 2024

The Volunteer Kick-Off events for UEFA EURO 2024 in Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart have been a resounding success, with 16,000 volunteers getting ready and embracing a vibrant tone for this year’s football tournament. These events have effectively laid the groundwork, showcasing the enthusiastic spirit and commitment of the volunteer community.

The final Kick-Off will take place in Gelsenkirchen on Saturday, 4th May, marking the end of a series of dynamic and inspirational gatherings nationwide.

Each city’s event was carefully orchestrated to provide essential information and training to the volunteers. Presentations covered everything from the unveiling of the official volunteer uniforms to introductions of the volunteer management team and detailed briefings on the do’s and don’ts of volunteering.

In addition to essential training, the events were packed with entertaining and engaging activities designed to build team spirit and camaraderie among the volunteers. Leipzig hosted a zoo visit, allowing volunteers to unwind and connect in a casual setting. Stuttgart and Frankfurt dazzled with freestyle football demonstrations, while Düsseldorf and Cologne featured musical acts. Munich offered a creative twist with some on-stage theatre improvisation followed by a surprise appearance from the Tournament Director, Philipp Lahm.

Further north, Hamburg and Berlin welcomed football icons as well as the Henri Delaunay trophy, and Dortmund provided volunteers with a firsthand look at the stadium ahead of operations. These events were further enhanced by workshops, photo opportunities, and food and drinks, giving volunteers a chance to get to know each other ahead of the tournament.

To top it off, a few football guest appearances were made throughout the Kick-Offs such as Kevin Prince Boateng, Célia Šašić, Toni Schumacher, Cacau and Felix Kroos.

The Kick-Off events have not only equipped the volunteers with the necessary tools and information but have also fostered a robust sense of community and enthusiasm, bringing them into the EURO mood. As the final event in Gelsenkirchen nears, the excitement continues to build, promising a strong volunteer base ready to support and enhance the experience of UEFA EURO 2024.
